Consultation begun on the impact of EWTD on the quality of training

A review into the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) and its impact upon the quality of postgraduate training, commissioned by the secretary of state for health, is now underway.

The review is being led by an independent chair, Professor Sir John Temple, on behalf of NHS Medical Education England (MEE) and will examine the impact of compliance with the working time directive on the quality of training for doctors, dentists, healthcare scientists and pharmacists.
