BMA sets out plans to tackle EWTD training challenge
Employers are still confident that they will achieve the average 48 hours working week by August 2009, according to a recent meeting of the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) reference group at NHS Employers.
But meanwhile the BMA warns that with just 100 days to go, urgent action needs to be taken to ensure the quality of training is maintained. There is particular concern about the training of surgeons in that the reduction in hours will make it difficult for them to gain the experience they need.
