GMC set to launch new doctor licensing system

Doctors and employers are being reminded that as of autumn 2009, all doctors - including locums – will require two forms of proof of their right to practise.

Starting next autumn, all doctors in the NHS or independent sector, working on a permanent or locum basis, will need a licence to practise and it will be this rather than their GMC registration, which will signify to patients that their doctor has the legal authority to practise medicine in the UK.
