GPs win £100 per health check for learning disability patients
GPs have negotiated fees of £100 to carry out annual health checks on patients with learning disabilities, despite mounting criticism of massive pay rises since the introduction of the new GP contract.
Health secretary Alan Johnson called on the NHS to make improving healthcare for people with learning disabilities a priority and has admitted they have been the victims of ‘horrific health services failures. But the BMA insisted its GP members be paid extra for the annual health checks - and ministers have conceded, earmarking £44 million for special payments to doctors across England over the next two years.
